lacking responsibility

i just read a very interesting blog entry by effect measure, bush doctrine: no child travels ahead. young US students did not perform very well against students from around the world in math and science tests (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study). so what is the department of education's solution to this challenge? they decided that US students wont take the tests anymore and therefore we won't look bad against the rest of the world!

ugh! what a horribly lazy way out! way to set an example for competitive improvement in the world forum!

i decided to test myself....

You Passed 8th Grade Math

I too got 9/10.

Assuming the test is the same every time (it was the two times I looked) question 2 seems very ambiguous to me: -7 is an integer, a whole number and prime. It's not irrational (which they did ask about) and it's not a natural number (which they didn't).

Whole number is ambigious, but prime is not -- prime must be positive.

I didn't know that 2 is the mode of the set 2, 2, 3, 5, 7 -- but I was able to guess it since the other answers didn't make sense..

Another example of how the Bush administration operates. Any kind of information that doesn't serve the political agenda of the neoconservative Republican party is methodically suppressed. If people are aware that the United States is falling behind in education, they would vote for candidates that would be willing to spend more money on public schools and teachers. Under the current Republican Party, all government spending is bad unless it's serves their interests.
